This year, the CX Insider podcast brought the holiday cheer with its first-ever Christmas special. Divided into two hilarious teams, “Danny Dorito” (inspired by a unique tattoo!) and “Two Eggs, One Buzzer,” the hosts indulged in a series of festive games! We’ll even be giving you a run down of which mince pies you should be investing in this holiday season!

A Battle of Mince Pies and Christmas Spirit

This year’s CX Insider Christmas Special kicked off with the most quintessentially British showdown: a mince pie taste test. The two teams dove straight into the sugary action. Armed with mince pies from Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Lidl, and Waitrose, the contestants put their taste buds to the test.

From rich, buttery crusts to claggy fillings, each pie received spirited critiques. Words like “stodgy” and “claggy” became the buzzwords of the day, and it quickly became clear that mince pie preferences are as divisive as holiday politics at the dinner table. Most surprisingly, the most expensive contender—Waitrose—ranked the worst with its dry, biscuit-like texture and an unimpressive filling-to-crust ratio. Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s soared to the top, proving that festive indulgence doesn’t have to come at a high price. The tasting session also sparked some unexpected laughs, with one team member admitting they don’t even like mince pies! But the fun didn’t end there, as the teams debated which pies belonged to which brands, further cementing the session as a Christmas classic. By the end of the round, Team Danny Dorito emerged victorious, their taste-testing prowess unmatched—at least until next year’s challenge.

Carol Chaos and Christmas Song Fails

Round two brought the festive tunes with Finish the Christmas Lyric, and if you think this sounds easy, you’re in for a surprise. From the iconic opening of Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You to the rhythmic repetition of Feliz Navidad, it was a musical minefield of forgotten lyrics, panicked buzzers, and questionable singing. Team “Danny Dorito” struggled early on, completely blanking on Wham’s Last Christmas, and let’s just say their rendition of the song left George Michael turning in his grave. But things got even more chaotic when they tried to tackle Chuck Berry’s Run, Run Rudolph, a rock classic that sent them into a tailspin of wrong guesses and misplaced melodies. Over on Team “Two Eggs, One Buzzer,” things weren’t much better. Despite managing to identify Ariana Grande’s Santa Tell Me, the actual lyrics were a distant memory.

Whether it was the holiday spirit or the pure determination to avoid total humiliation, everyone rallied, and the round ended on a high (if slightly off-key) note.

Trivia Triumphs and Tall Tales

The final rounds brought out the big guns: a Christmas quiz and a hilarious game of “true or false” that kept everyone on their toes. The quiz featured classic holiday questions like “What are the names of the criminals in Home Alone?” (spoiler: Marv and Harry) and “What’s the eighth gift in The Twelve Days of Christmas?” (answer: eight maids-a-milking).

The real highlight, however, was the “true or false” round. Contestants tackled bizarre holiday tales, including the (totally made-up) Scandinavian Festival of the Frozen Gnomes and a Canadian tradition called “Mummering,” which, shockingly, turned out to be real. The most outrageous story? The fictional “Great Goose Chase” in Winkleshire, where contestants were quick to call it out as false (and rightly so).

By the end of the competition, Team Danny Dorito clinched the win, claiming their place as the first-ever CX Insider Christmas champions. With tiaras on their heads and bragging rights firmly in hand, they revelled in their victory while Team Two Eggs, One Buzzer graciously accepted second place.
